Privacy Policy

Closet ("we", "us") is an app for discovering clothing from retailers by swiping through items. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Closet at joincloset.com or in our iOS app, and how we use it.

What we collect

Account details. Your email address, a password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form), and the display name you choose.
Google sign-in. If you continue with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us. We do not receive your Google password or access to your Google account beyond that.
Sign in with Apple. If you continue with Apple, Apple shares your name and email address (or a private relay address, if you choose to hide yours).
Your activity in Closet. Items you like or pass on, outfits you save, and the clothing sizes you enter.
How you use the app. Which items you view, save and share, when you tap through to a retailer's site (and which retailer), when you open a shared link, and how long you spend in the app. If you're signed in this is linked to your account; if you use Closet as a guest it is linked to a random ID stored on your device.
Social features. Friend requests, your friends list, and messages and items you send to friends.
Comments. Comments you post on items, which other Closet users can see.
Virtual try-on (optional). If you choose to use virtual try-on, the photo of yourself you upload and the try-on images made from it. They are stored privately in your account and are not shown to anyone else unless you share them.
Notifications. If you turn on notifications, a device token so we can send them to your phone.
On your device. Small settings such as your light or dark theme, and a shared item link kept briefly while you sign in. These stay in your browser's storage.

We do not collect your location, contacts, or payment details, we only collect a photo of you if you choose to use virtual try-on, and we do not use advertising trackers.

How we use it

To run your account and sign you in.
To show you items and improve recommendations based on what you like.
To let you share items and outfits with friends you choose.
To keep Closet secure and fix problems.
To understand how Closet is used, such as which features and retailers people use most, so we can improve it. We keep these records ourselves; we do not use third-party analytics or advertising services.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Service providers that host Closet for us: Supabase (database, sign-in, and file storage) and Vercel (website hosting). They process data only to provide those services.
Google Cloud (Vertex AI), only if you use virtual try-on. Your try-on photo and the photo of the item are sent to Google to create the preview image.
Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Apple, only if you choose to sign in with Apple.
Other Closet users you connect with, who can see your display name and anything you send them.
Retailers. When you tap through to buy an item, you leave Closet and the retailer's own privacy policy applies. Retailer links may carry referral tags so we can earn a commission; these do not include your personal information.
When required by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation.

Your choices

You can update your display name and sizes in the app, and delete your account at any time in Settings. You can view, replace, or delete your virtual try-on photo, and every try-on made from it, in Profile. To get a copy of your data, email joinclosetapp@gmail.com. If you signed in with Google, you can also remove Closet’s access from your Google Account settings at any time.

Children

Closet is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use encrypted connections and access controls to protect your information. No online service is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
